The drummer in the Norwegian rock band “Honningbarna,” Anders Askildsen Eikås (20), died in a car accident last night.
The band’s manager Louis Holbrook said this in a statement:
“Honningbarna is a close-knit group of friends, and the band are obviously extremely upset by what has happened. Our thoughts go to Anders’ family at this moment.”
The remaining members of Honningbarna are Edward Valberg, Christopher Trædal, Fredrik Justnes and Lars Emmelthun.
“It is too early to say what is happening with the band, but the next performances will be cancelled until we’ve agreed on a way forward,” writes Holbrook, who adds that he will speak out when a decision is made.
Holbrook said to Dagbladet that the fatal accident happened in Eikås’ hometown of Søgne in Agder, and the band at that time was not on tour.
“This is a very sad tragedy that affects us all very much,” a clearly shaken manager told Dagbladet.
“Norway has lost a very, very talented musician. And 20 years is far too young.”
Sheriff Terje Pedersen Søgne and Songdalen sheriff’s office confirmed that the 20-year-old man died in a car accident last night.
“Police were notified that a car had driven off the road at 1:24 a.m., and a nearby police patrol came quickly to the place. The man died at the scene shortly after the patrol arrived,” Pedersen said to Dagbladet.
There were no other cars involved in the accident.
