Watch It Norway—Here Comes the Bahamas
The Winter Olympics start Friday, which means it’s time for the medal chase to begin in places like Norway, Sweden and … the Cayman Islands?
That’s right—for the first time an athlete from the Caymans, Dow Travers, is scheduled to compete in the Winter Games. But he’s not the only competitor expected to lead a country or territory in its Winter Olympics debut. As of press time, there were eight new flags set to be presented in the opening ceremonies, including those of the Bahamas, Peru, Pakistan, Colombia, Ghana, Montenegro and Serbia. This is the fourth-highest total since the second Winter Games in 1928, according to Bill Mallon, co-founder of the International Society of Olympic Historians and an Olympics author.
