Norwegian cyclist Thor Hushvod seems to have found his World Cup form; on Wednesday he won the fourth stage of the Tour of Britain.

Lars Boom leads the race overall, but on Wednesday had to settle for second place behind Hushovd.

“I did not imagine this would happen today,” said Hushovd to NRK just past the finish line.

The Norwegian smashed his biggest rivals, Lars Boom and Mark Cavendish, in a sprint during the day’s stage. At the finish line, the rest of the sprinters were around 5 meters behind “the bull from Grimstad” as Hushovd is sometimes known.

“This is very good for my confidence. I saved myself all the way through for the finish, and I was totally prepared to test my sprinting. The race went exactly how I wanted. In the sprint, I was totally the boss,” says a grinning Hushovd.

The stage went over 113 miles between Welshpool and Caerphilly in Wales.

A few days ago it became known that Hushovd was sick, just weeks before the World Champions in Copenhagen. The problem was a runny nose and a sore throat, and Hushovd was put on antibiotics.

Now the World Cup favorite is slowly but surely making a comeback.

“The sickness has set me back a little, but I’ll work really hard to get back on track for the World Cup,” said Hushovd.

According to the race’s website, Hushovd won the toughest stage of the Tour of Britain, with several uncategorized climbs.

The win is the first for Hushovd in almost two months, after his success in the Tour de France with two stage victories.

“This can not be compared with the Tour de France, but it was extra good to get a win now, before the World Cup,” says Hushovd.
