Tribeca Invites Three Norwegian Films
Norwegian director Rune Denstad Langlo’s feature debut, North (Nord), which won the international critics’ FIPRESCI prize and a shared Europa Cinemas Label at the recent Berlinale, has been selected for the 8th Tribeca Film Festival, which takes place in New York between April 22-May 3.
Scripted by Erlend Loe, and produced by Sigve Endresen and Brede Hovland for Motlys, North is one of 12 entries competing for Best Film and Best Newcomer in Tribeca’s World Narrative Feature section. According to French sales agent, Memento Films International, the Berlin screening sparked off a ”real bidding war” between European buyers – the film has subsequently been licensed to almost 20 countries. It will have its US debut at the New York festival which was founded by Robert De Niro.
Produced by Torstein Grude for Piraya Film, Polish director Andrzej Fidyk’s YODOK Stories has been chosen as a contender in the Best International Documentary programme. Dealing with conditions in North Korean concentration camps, the film has been awarded at festivals in Warsaw (Planet Doc Review) and Bergen.
Kajsa Næss’ Deconstruction Workers (Bygningsarbeidere), which received the grand prix at last year’s Norwegian Short Film Festival in Grimstad and competed in Clermont Ferrand, will enter Tribeca’s short film competition. It follows a two builders discussing life while the world around them is falling apart.
The Tribeca Film Festival was founded in 2002 by Jane Rosenthal and Robert De Niro in a response to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the consequent loss of vitality in the TriBeCa neighborhood in Manhattan.
