Top choice for students – Statoil
Statoil is at the top of the rankings in the 2010 Universum student survey. Norwegian students ranked the company as number one in the fields of Technology and Economy and in the top ten for IT.
The results showed a continuing history of strength, with a first place finish for the ninth year in a row in Economy adding to fourteen years as student’s first choice in Technology.
Strong in important areas
Employer branding firm Universum is responsible for the yearly survey exploring the perceptions of students at Norway’s leading universities.
“Statoil scores high in areas important to students, especially in the areas of the environment, corporate social responsibility and ethics,” said Carlo Duraturo, head of Universum’s Nordic operations, commenting on the reasons for Statoil’s consistent top finishes.
Tone Rognstad, Statoil’s head of Recruiting and Profiling, added: “Our high ranking is a result of hard work, constant presence in the academic world and commitment, illustrated by the hundreds of visits we make every year to schools and universities.”
Activities are key
Programs and activities that build awareness of Statoil as a good place to work may be one of the keys to the company’s success in the surveys. The students are offered a wide range of master thesis, summer internships and graduate positions, providing the opportunity to take on challenging and meaningful tasks with skilled colleagues. By working side-by-side with the students, employees become ambassadors for Statoil, and this contributes the company’s strong performance in the surveys.
In Rognstad’s view, maintaining the company’s position as a top choice for young talents is “very important, because it continues our ability to attract and recruit top students both here in Norway and overseas so that we can meet our future competence needs”
