The year's first winter storm

Snow storms could delay traffic in Finnmark.
It has been an unusually mild autumn, but today, Northerners will experience powerfully bad weather. The on-duty meteorologist, Gunnar Nor, informed Norwegians of the weather situation in Tromso on Monday.
“It is the first winter storm that is upon us now. Especially in Finnmark it is windy at the moment. In addition, there are snow storms and cold,” said Nor.
Inhabitants of Tromsø saw today Norway’s first snowfall of the year.
According to the meteorologist, the weather will calm down during the afternoon – with the exception of Eastern Finnmark, where the wind will be a little stronger in the evening.
“In Troms, the weather will be calm during the evening and night, but the storm is moving east, so it will likely hit Eastern Finnmark,” says Nor.
The coast from Berlevåg to Vardo will feel the storm the most – a northwesterly storm has been predicted in the afternoon.
The powerful storm is causing problems for traffic in Finnmark. Among other things, the Hurtigruten ship “Richard With” had to dock in Alta, and will not continue north until the weather permits.
Also, air traffic in Finnmark must yiled to wind gusts, and many flights have been canceled or delayed.
“The last day we have been plagued by strong winds and some snow storms, which has caused problems with the air services and settings,” says Jan Gabrielsen Widerøe.
But according to the meteorologist, it is a good sign that the first winter storm is finally upon us.
“This is what one can expect in November. It is a good sign that winter is finally underway. It’s still a question whether the snow will stay, but it is a good start,” says Gunnar Nor.
