Terje Håkonsen earns Best Trick honors in NYC
On Thursday, Feb. 5 snowboarding icon Terje Håkonsen (34) from Vinje, Norway competed in the Red Bull Snowboarding contest in New York City.
He was one of the 16 best snowboarders in the world, who were flying on the Red Bull Snowscraper, a nine stories tall, 150 yards long ramp built in the East River Park, of the FDR Drive. New Jersey’s own Shayne Pospisil ended up grabbing first place, taking home $50,000.
Earlier in the evening, Terje dropped into the 90-foot tall ramp with his back foot unstrapped from the binding, pulling off a one-footed method air as he kicked his rear foot out, much to
the appreciation of the roaring crowd. For his difficult, throwback-style trick, Håkonsen earned Best Trick honors for the night.

TAC was ranked the best snowboard event in the world in Onboard Magazine’s reader poll 2004 and got highest score in the TTR World Tour rider survey in 2008, together with the German event Air&Style.
The Oakley Arctic Challenge 2009 will take place on Thursday Feb. 19 and Saturday Feb. 21 at Linderudkollen in Oslo, Norway.
