Swedish Aspiro to launch music streaming service in Norway

Swedish mobile content provider Aspiro AB said Sept. 7 it will set up a joint venture with Norwegian music retailer Platekompaniet AS to launch its music streaming service Wimp in Norway.

The new company, named Kompanjong AS, is due to launch Wimp in the autumn of 2009.

Wimp allows users to listen to and download music streamed over the Internet on their computers or mobile phones. At present, the service offers access to over 2.5 million songs.

Aspiro, in cooperation with Norwegian telecoms group Telenor ASA (OSL: TEL) and Platekompaniet, is currently testing Wimp in Norway with several thousand users.
