World Cup at Kvitfjell

Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal won third place in the men’s Alpine skiing downhill at Kvitfjell, Norway on March 6. Canadian Manuel Osborne-Paradis won ahead of Austrian favorite Michael Walchhofer.

Svindal’s third revived his World Cup hopes as he jumped to third place in the overall standings.

Croat Ivica Kostelic and Austrian Benjamin Raich are joint first overall at 837 points with Svindal 26 points behind before next week’s finals in Aare, Sweden.

Kvitfjell was built for the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics. Since then, it has become one of the best and most modern ski resorts in Northern Europe. Kvitfjell is located just 2.5 hours north of the Oslo Airport, along the main railway and highway.

The Norwegians did not do so good om March 7. Svindal ended up on 14th place. 

Heavy snowfall forced the cancellation of the men’s World Cup super-G race March 8. The men’s super-G title will be settled on Thursday in Sweden with Olympic champion Hermann Maier of Austria leading Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal by 19 points.
