Strategic role in global environmental research

Global Change Committee

Global Change Committee

The newly-established Global Change Committee will be a link between Norwegian and international research on global environmental change. It will also act as strategic adviser to the Research Council within the field

The Global Change Committee will support the efforts of the Research Council to enhance and coordinate research on global environmental change. The aim is to achieve a cohesive, interdisciplinary approach to this research.

Increasing and coordinating activities

The committee will also play a key role in information and dissemination efforts related to research on international global change, and will be a hub for the Norwegian research community. It will disseminate information about relevant activities on its own as well, for example by organising workshops and seminars.

The Global Change Committee will promote close contact between Norwegian research groups and the international research community within the field and between players from the research and public administration sectors.

Link to the rest of the world

Particular attention will be focused on Norway’s relations with the following international global change programs: the International Human Dimension Program on Global Environmental Change (IHDP), the International Geosphere-Biosphere Program (IGBP), the DIVERSITAS program (biodiversity science) and the World Climate Research Program (WCRP).

The committee will also encourage closer ties to global change research being carried out under the auspices of EU programs and will act as the Research Council’s consultative body in scientific matters related to the Norwegian membership of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).
