Steady increase in number of students
Preliminary figures indicate that 6 100 more students were registered at Norwegian universities and colleges in 2010 compared with the previous year. The number of male students has increased the most, but female students are still in the majority.
As per 1 October 2010, 227 700 students were registered at Norwegian universities and colleges, which is an increase of approximately 3 per cent from the previous year. The universities and specialised university institutions had the largest increase of students, where 5 200 more students were enrolled in 2010 than in 2009. Some of the growth is due to Molde University College’s new status as a specialised university as of 1 January 2010.
Female students are in the majority, and accounted for 60 per cent of the total student number. The number of male students has increased the most; by 3 700 from 2009 to 2010.
