Stavanger delegation visits sister city Houston
The Mayor of Stavanger, Leif Johan Sevland, made his annual winter visit to Houston January 26-28, 2009.
Mayor Sevland was accompanied by 14 representatives from Stavanger-based institutions. The delegation from the city known as the Energy Capital of Europe, spent their days meeting with some of the major American oil corporations as well as a wide range of academic and research institutions within the medical and energy sectors. They also paid a visit to NASA and the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership.
The meetings were successful in bringing the two sister cities closer together and laid the foundation for further collaboration. The Stavanger delegation also took time Tuesday evening to host a reception for Young Professionals and Friends of Stavanger at the Petroleum Club.
“Houston is home to about 6,000 Norwegian citizens, which outside of Scandinavia is the largest concentration of Norwegians (not Norwegian-Americans). Many are employed with one of the more than 100 Norwegian companies which have offices in ‘the word’s energy capital’. 80 percent of which are energy related,” reports News of Norway.
