On Aug. 21 Norway’s Trond Nymark won the silver medal in the 50-kilometer walk at the world championships in Berlin. “It was about time to win a medal,” said the happy speed walker from Bergen.

Sergey Kirdyapkin of Russia won Gold, finishing  in 3:38:35, while Jesus Angel Garcia of Spain was third. Nymark claimed silver in a national record of 3:41:16, with Garcia finishing in 3:41:37.

“I’m very happy,” said Nymark. “We decided to just do my own race, do what I was feeling ok with. (That was) to be offensive at the start and do my own pace all the way. The plan was to stay within 45 seconds of the leading group all the way and we did that and it paid off at the end.”
