Soccer: Norwegian host cities chosen for WC 2016
Oslo, Stavanger, Trondheim and Lillestrøm will be host cities for the Football World Cup 2016, if Norway and Sweden will be chosen co-hosts for the World Championships. Bodø and Bergen were left out.
All six cities had submitted their applications to the Norwegian Football Association (NFF), but Bodø and Bergen were found wanting in the fields of transport and available accommodation, NFF president Sondre Kåfjord stated.
Oslo will build a new national stadium with a 50,000 seating capacity, and Lillestrøm Football Club has plans for a new stadium which will seat 40,000.
UEFA will on May 27 2010 announce the host country chosen for the 2016 games. In addition to Norway/Sweden, France, Italy and Turkey have also announced their candidacy.
