Skijumping: Jacobsen second in summer event
Anders Jacobsen, from Hønefoss, Norway placed second in the Ski Jumping Summer Grand Prix for men in Courchevel, Germany on Sunday. He finished 1.2 points behind the winner; Swiss Simon Ammann. Russia’s Dennis Kornilov came in third.
Around 80 world class ski jumpers, from around the world, competed in the 19th World Cup Summer Ski Jumping competition. There was no need for snowy slopes, the tracks were made up by plastic and ceramics.
Jacobsen led after the first round, with a jump of 102.5m, but even when he increased to in the second round to 106.5m, he was outjumped by Amman who reached 110m. On Saturday Norway won the team event with 1055.1 points, 18.3 points ahead of Germany. The Finnish team placed third.
Jacobsen won two medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec. As of March 1, 2009 he placed seventh in the overall world cup standings.
