Rental market survey, 4th quarter 2009: Slight growth in rents

The rental market survey showed minor changes in rents from the third to the fourth quarter. The average monthly rent for all tenants was NOK 5,444 in the fourth quarter of 2009; a marginal rise from the third quarter.

The average monthly rent in the fourth quarter in Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger and Tromsø was NOK 6,109; an increase of 0.6 percent from the third quarter. In Oslo and Bærum the average monthly rent rose marginally from the third to the fourth quarter to NOK 7,459.

For dwellings with one room, the average monthly rent increased by 0.4 per cent from the third to the fourth quarter to NOK 4,264. For dwellings with two rooms or more there were approximately no changes.

Rents increased most in large cities

In the period from the first quarter to the fourth quarter of 2009, rents rose the most in the large cities. The average monthly rent increased by 1.3 percent in Oslo, while in Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger and Tromsø rents rose by 1.1 percent.

The rent for dwellings with five rooms or more and one room dwellings increased the most from the first quarter to the fourth quarter, by 1.6 and 1.3 percent respectively. The other types of dwellings had smaller changes.
