Reduced pensions for future MPs in Norway
The present “golden” pension scheme for the nation’s Members of Parliament will this fall be replaced by a pension plan more in line with the ordinary national pension scheme for most of us.
A working group which has evaluated the present pension plan for Norwegian MPs, has proposed that the new scheme should follow the National Pension Plan: Future MPs will no longer receive full pension after only 12 years in office, but only after having served at least 30 years.
Neither will they be guaranteed a pension of at least 66 per cent of their MP salary. They will, however, be eligible for a three month salary after the termination of their service. Today’s MPs will to a large degree retain the pension rights of the present scheme.
