H.M. Queen Sonja was present when the exhibition “Under great pressure” opened on November 9th. H.M. King Harald, H.M. Queen Silvia and H.R.H Crown Prince Haakon were also present at the Vernissage, where the Queen’s own works are among the works of art exhibited.

The anniversary Exhibition “Under great pressure – Mästergrafik från Ateljé Larsen” takes place at Dunkers Culture Center in Helsingborg, Sweden. Ateljé Larsen began in Helsingborg 40 years ago and has evolved to become one of the world’s leading printing companies for contemporary art.

The man behind the studios, the printer Ole Larsen, hopes the exhibition will open audience’s eyes to what art is today.

The exhibition portrays  art as personal expression, and shows the potential graphic design holds. It is the first time such a large exhibition of new graphics has been shown in Sweden – 1000 works by 80 internationally known artists are included.

The Queen set out her own pictures with the artists Kjell Nupen and Opdahl. Other Norwegian artists exhibiting are Bjørg Thorhallsdottir, Charlotte Thiis-Evensen, Kjell Erik Killi Olsen, Magne Furuholmen, Olav Christopher Jensen, Patrick Huse, Thorbjørn Sørensen, Vibeke Slyngstad. All artists have a partnership with Ateljé Larsen.

The Swedish Minister of Culture Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth opened the exhibition.

Queen Sonja has worked with Kjell Nupen, Opdahl and Ole Larsen on the art project “Three trips – three landscapes.” The result is a folder with 24 original copper and polymer prints, 8 prints from each of the three artists, signed and numbered to 50 copies.

The Queen’s artwork is based on photographs from a trip to Svalbard in 2006. It is the first time the works will be shown in public when they are presented in the Dunkers Culture House.

The purpose of the cooperation project is to provide capital to HM Queen Sonja’s scholarship fund. The foundation was established January 14, 2011, and aims to generate interest – and stimulate the development of – paper-based art.

The scholarship will be awarded for the first time in 2012.

In the evening, Queen Sonja and Crown Prince Haakon attended an official dinner for the artists hosted by the city of Helsingborg.
