I am submitting a photo I took during my family visit to Norway this summer. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY and attended a Norwegian church in Bay Ridge. I currently live in New Jersey, but most of my family still live in Norway. My great-grandfather built a farm house which still stands in Kvile, within the Nordfjord Mountains. The picture depicts the original room, which has since been restored. There is a group of family pictures on the wall: to the left is a photo of my great-great grandparents; to the right is a photo of my great-grandparents. The old red sofa was handmade, and the Hardangersøm tablecloth was handmade by one of my relatives in Norway.

Photo taken from an excursion boat on the way to Svartisen Glacier. A tranquil inlet of the Norwegian Sea disturbed only by the wake of the boat. This was the beginning of one of the many “must take” sidetrips on the Hurtigruten journey North.

Sons of Norway, Nortun Lodge 1-016 had the honor of serving the SS Sorlandet breakfast on board ship July 28, 2013. The SS Sorlandet was in Duluth, MN along with 8 other Tall Ships. After breakfast Captain Strure Erichsen invited us to stay for a tour of the ship. The photo I chose is of the Norwegian flag being raised for the day, which was very moving in and of itself but the moon to the left made it even more striking.
