Panel discussion on Norwegian architecture in Washington D.C.
On September 16, the Royal Norwegian Embassy will be co-hosting a panel discussion on Norwegian architecture with the Catholic University of America, in Washington D.C.
Featuring three acclaimed architects, Peter MacKeith, Craig Dykers and Einar Jarmund, this debate will offer interesting insights into the differences between Norwegian and U.S. architecture, and highlight what sets Norwegian architecture apart from international trends.
Peter MacKeith, Associate Dean with Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, Washington University in St. Louis, has written several articles on Norwegian architecture, and has through his travels to Norway he has acquired a wealth of knowledge on how Norwegian architecture fits in with, as well as challenges, other trends in contemporary architecture. He has also written a series of articles for Arcitectural Record featuring Norwegian architecture.
Craig Dykers, currently with renowned Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta, has been a member of the Norwegian Architecture Association (NAL), the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and is a Fellow in the Royal Society of Arts in England. He has lectured extensively in Europe, Asia and the Americas. In addition Dykers has been commissioned to complete various installation art projects in public spaces, many of these focused on the notion of context, nature and human nature.
The debate will be moderated by Susan Piedmont-Palladino, Professor of Architecture at Virginia Tech and curator with the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.
