Ormen Lange to reach full capacity by end of year

Ormen Lange gas field, located in the Norwegian Sea, approximately 140km west of Kristiansund, is set to reach full capacity of 70 million cubic metres a day by the end of 2009, Shell said on Friday.

“The plan is to bring the volume to maximum capacity by the back end of 2009,” a spokeswoman said to Reuters. She confirmed the schedule was on track and four wells were being drilled. “We’re in the phase of completing four new wells, but we’re not there yet,” she added. Production at Ormen Lange gas field was cut when planned maintenance started on Sept. 17, but Shell did not say if the work was related to the expansion plan, reports Reuters.

Ormen Lange exports gas to Britain via the Langeled pipeline to the Easington terminal in northern England.
