Ulrikke Eikeri (17) is Norways greatest tennis talent. Now the young girl will battle against John McEnroe and Martina Hingis in an exhibition tournament in Liverpool.

After working for nine years to get John McEnroe to participate in the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament, so tournament leader Anders Borg was ultimately successful in getting the aging tennis hero to Calderstone Park.

The event is meant to be a warmup event to the more prestigious Wimbledon tournament, which begins June 21.

“We have worked long to get McEnroe to participate in the tournament, and finally did it. We have had many stars on visits, but McEnroe is the greatest entertainer of them all,” said Borg to Aftenposten.no.

Great expectations

It is in a mixed doubles with Mark Knowles, that our own Ulrikke Eikeri has the opportunity to test themselves against the respected McEnroe / Martina Hingis. The latter has won five Grand Slam titles. In addition, McEnroe also meet the former French Open finalist, Mikael Pernfors.

“We want this to promote the sport of tennis in Norway. Ulrike is a smart, ambitious and outgoing girl. She plays tough, and I have great hopes that she can get in the top-200 world rankings in just a year’s time. Hopefully she’s top 50 within two or three years,” said Borg.
