Norwegian Tamils demonstrate in Oslo

Norwegian Tamils marched through Central Oslo Feb. 4 to condemn Sri Lankan government for its genocidal war against Tamil people. The “Torch Parade” organised by Norwegian Tamil Forum (NTF) drew more than 3500 participants who made the effort take part in the record-turnout event amidst inclement weather.

The Leader of the Opposition, from the Conservative party, Erna Solberg, who spoke said that she doesn’t support LTTE (The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) but she supports the right to self-determination for the Tamils in Sri Lanka.

Other key speakers at the event included Trond Jensrud, Leading member of Oslo City Council, representing the ruling Labour Party (AP), who said that it is about time the Tamils in Sri Lanka deserved to be treated fairly, and agreed that Tamil people have the legitimate right to self rule.

Bjørnar Moxness, Steering committee member for Oslo City Council, representing the Red party said the Sri Lankan government is not protecting its citizens and urged the world to recognise the aspirations of the Tamil people.
