Norwegian-Russian discussions on economic cooperation

Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov (photo) is in the Norwegian capital Oslo to discuss economic cooperation with the Norwegian Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Industry.

On Wednesday, Zubkov meets with Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg. On the agenda for this meeting is economic cooperation between the two countries and Stoltenberg’s forthcoming visit to Moscow on May 19th, news agency PRIME-TASS reports.

On Thursday Viktor Zubkov takes part in a meeting in the Norwegian-Russian intergovernmental committee for economic, industrial and technological cooperation. Zubkov and the Norwegian Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Industry Sylvia Brustad are chairmen in this body.

The intergovernmental committee is the most important bilateral forum for economic cooperation between Norway and Russa, the Norwegian government writes in a press release about the meeting. It consists of working groups on concrete projects like tourism and economic interrelationsship between Russia’s and Norway’s northernmost regions.

As BarentsObserver reported yesterday, the controversial Telenor-case is likely to be an issue for discussion in both the ministerial meetings.
