Norwegian-Russian border guard stations isolated because of swine flu
All six of the Norwegian border guard stations on the Norwegian-Russian border have been isolated in an attempt to prevent further swine flu infection, reports the BarentsObserver.
The Sør-Varanger Garrison (GSV) outside Kirkenes is hit by an outbreak of swine flu, as reported by BarentsObserver two days ago. The number of infected personnel has now climbed to 50, NRK.no reports. GSV has 600 soldiers and officers.
All six border stations subordinated to GSV have now been isolated from the main camp in order to prevent the infection from spreading to the personnel on border guard duty.
The garrison’s commander Lieutenant Colonel Jørn Erik Berntsen believes the number of infected will continue to rise through the week and then fall again as the soldiers get well again, newspaper Finnmarken reports.
