Norwegian Police Students Visit the UN

New York, May 9 – 27 students from the Police University College in Norway visited Norway’s Permanent Mission to UN in New York this week. The students have all chosen to look deeper into UN and international police cooperation in post conflict situations for their final semester.
The soon to be police men and women came to USA and the United Nations on their very own initiative to learn more.
“That the students show interest in UN police work is very positive,” said Odd Berner Malme, Police Counsellor at the Norwegian Mission to UN, underlining that international cooperation is increasingly important as crime tends to travel across borders. “These students are the police leaders of tomorrow, it’s important that they already now become aware of the gobal dimension of their own work,” he continues.
The students were briefed on central issues like the role of the police in UN peace keeping operations, fighting terrorism, post conflict police transformation and forensic physiology. They toured the UN headquarter and also managed to visit New York Police Department (NYPD) Police Academy.
Before arriving in New York the students spent time in Washington D.C. and visited the FBI Academy in Virginia.
