Norwegian Nexans wins contract in the Caribbean
First delivery of next generation repeatered fibre optic submarine systems for Nexans which will supply 1,300km of cable to connect Trinidad & Tobago to Suriname via Guyana.
Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has been awarded a major contract by Global Marine Systems Ltd., one of the world’s leading providers of submarine cable installation and services, to supply 1,300km of repeatered fibre optic submarine cable to connect the islands of Trinidad & Tobago to Suriname via Guyana. The cable system will help enhance communication links between the three countries.
The 1300km cable will be produced at Nexans’ factory in Rognan, Norway and comprise 21 segments, with amplifiers integrated every 70km, and will be delivered to Global Marine Systems in October 2009.
Behind this next generation of repeatered fibre optic submarine systems are Nexans, Global Marine Systems Ltd. and Huawei Marine Networks, a Chinese manufacturer of telecom accessories.
