Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs to present book at the Norwegian Seamen’s Church in New York City

Meet the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jonas Gahr Støre, at the Norwegian Seamen’s Church, discussing his book, “Å gjøre en forskjell” (Making a difference), Sunday June 14, 6.30pm. You may also sign up for a reception following the discussion.

”Making a Difference” is an invitation to reflect upon Norway’s positions, values and interests during a time when many of the premises of international politics are changing. With a great interest and profound knowledge Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre discusses which goals we can reach, and what will happen if we succeed in reaching them. The discussion will be conducted in English in conversation with renown Norwegian journalist Anders Giæver.

In this book Støre gives us a rare insight into how Norwegian foreign policy is shaped and practiced. He takes us along on journeys to the Arctic and northern Norway to show us the importance of the high north. He discusses how energy security and climate security will affect foreign policy, and the challenges that might occur when Norway engages in countries with a different political culture. During a journey in the Middle East he searches for measures that can reduce the conflicts in this region. While in Africa he understands why the issue of health needs to be a central part of foreign policy. He also meets the Turkish author Orhan Pamuk, former Prime Minister Tony Blair – and calls on the new American president with four requests. In between, Støre shares his impressions, thoughts and analysis with us.

Mr. Støre has a wide experience working with international issues. Before being appointed to his current position in 2005, he worked with several international organizations including the World Health Organization and the Red Cross. Click here for more information about Mr. Støre.
