North Dakotans to Norway: A tour opportunity

Abraham Lincoln
COMMEMORATING THE BICENTENNIAL OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN’S BIRTH
Celebrate the bicentennial of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth with a tour to Norway! In 1914, the people of North Dakota raised money and traveled to Norway with Governor Louis Hanna to present an heroic-sized bust of Lincoln to mark the centennial celebration of Norway’s constitution. This trip also commemorated the Homestead Act, which was signed by President Lincoln, enabling thousands of immigrants to acquire free land in Dakota Territory. While traveling from Bergen through the fabulous fjord country to Telemark, Sarpsborg, Oslo and Hamar, learn about North Dakota’s Norway connections.
