The Norsemen Men’s Chorus of Sons of Norway Sonja Lodge will host the 2019 Pacific Coast Norwegian Singer’s Association (PCNSA) Sangerfest (song-er-fest) or Song Festival at the Hilton Garden Inn in Springfield, Ore. The festival will run from June 20 to 23 and is highlighted by a Grand Concert, which is open to the public on June 21. A combined choir of nearly 100 singers will perform the concert. It will consist of traditional Norwegian, Scandinavian, and American choral music.

We are thrilled to welcome talented Brazilian pianist Ednaldo Borba as our guest performer.

The PCNSA continues the tradition of Norwegian male vocal singing, which became popular in the late 1800s and peaked during the early 1900s. Many towns in Norway still support men’s choruses.

The 2019 Sangerfest is the 110th Sangerfest of the PCNSA. Eugene hosted the 50th Sangerfest in 1959 and the 100th in 2009 as well as many others in between. Many sons, fathers, and grandfathers have sung together during the life of the organization. Howard Herbranson of Eugene was the president of the PCNSA in 1959 and his grandsons Mark Agerter and Dan Moore currently sing with the Norsemen. Heritage and tradition run deep throughout Norwegian male chorus history.

The public is invited to the Grand Concert, which will be held on June 21 at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Eugene. Tickets are $20, available by using a link for credit card sales at sonjalodge.org or pcnsa.org, or by cash or check given to any member of the Norsemen, or leave a message at the Sons of Norway Sonja Lodge at (541) 344-1064. Pending availability, tickets might also be available at the door.

To learn more, contact Dan Moore at (541) 520-2211 or email norsemen@sonjalodge.org.
