NATO exercises outside Northern Norway
From Feb. 8 – 19 NATO will be conducting their 11th annual large-scale explosives clearance exercise outside the coast of Northern Norway.
The exercise, called EODEX (Explosives Ordnance Disposal Exercise), includes personnel from ten countries: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Lithuania, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Estonia and Turkey. This is the fifth time Norway has been involved.
This is the fifth time Olavsvern Naval Base, located outside Tromsø – above the Arctic Circle, takes part in the project.
The aim of the exercises is to train the participating countries’ OED teams (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) under extreme weather conditions. The personnel will be trained in driving under winter conditions, ice diving and underwater blasting.
