Medal and closing ceremony

The Cross-Country 50 km for men on Sunday is the last competition in the FIS Nordic World Ski Championship 2011. The medal ceremony will take place in the Cross-Country arena immediately after the race is finished and directly followed by a simple closing ceremony.

Immediately after the last athlete has crossed the finishing line after the 50 km, about 15.25, the medal ceremony will begin at the Cross-Country arena in Holmenkollen. FIS President Gian Franco Kasper and His Majesty King Harald V will be awarding the medals.

This year’s Norwegian Eurovision Song Contest finalist Helene Bøksle will perform the song ”Heimo og Nykkjen”, whilst it is being prepared for a short, but formal closing ceremony.

Simple, but ceremonious closing

During the closing ceremony, His Majesty the King’s Guard will carry flags representing the participating nations. There will be speeches by chairman of the board Svein Aaser and CEO Åsne Havnelid from Oslo2011, as well as by FIS President Gian Franco Kasper.

Then, members of the Royal Guard will lower the FIS-flag and hand it over to representatives from the Organizing Committee of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme, Italy.

Finally, the president of the Organizing Committee of Val fi Fiemme 2013, Pietro De Godenz, will give a speech and a short film about the next World Championships will be shown, before this year’s official championship song “Glorious” will be played in the arena for the last time.
