Marion Elmquist receives 2010 Ambassador’s Award
10/25/2010 // At this year’s US-Norway Forum, Marion Elmquist, President of Ski for Light, was given the 2010 Ambassador’s Award.
Elmquist is the President of Ski for Light (http://www.sfl.org/), an organization working to “enhance the quality of life independence of mobility-impaired adults through a program of cross-country skiing”. During Ski for Light events, each disabled skier is paired with an experienced, sighted cross-country skier who acts as ski instructor and guide. Founded in 1975, the organization is modelled on a similar program in Beitostølen, Norway.
“With annual awards like this one, we often tend to look to those who have done something new during the last twelve months. But this year, we want to honor someone who has worked relentlessly for many years,” said Ambassador Strømmen.
“The Ski for Light initiative, with Marion as President, is a very worthy recipient”.
The organization holds its 36th annual Ski for Light International Week at Snow Mountain Ranch in Colorado, from Sunday January 30 through Sunday February 6, 2011.
