Marianne Skarpnord equals tour record at Pegasus New Zealand Women's Open

Norway’s Marianne Skarpnord equaled the Ladies European Tour (LET) nine-hole record with a blazing seven under 29 during the afternoon round of the Pegasus New Zealand Women’s Open at Pegasus town, near Christchurch.

Skarpnord had a 12 foot birdie putt on the 9th to set the record, but it just slipped by the cup. Last year she also shot 29 in the Finnair Masters in Helsinki. Her round today included five birdies and an eagle at the par 5 fifth. This is the 29th time a golfer has shot 29 in a LET event.

The Norwegian has a three shot lead over South African Ashleigh Simon, who was four under through nine and in a tie with Australian Kristie Smith who is in the clubhouse with a 68. The nor-west winds that buffeted the course in the morning have now given way to a stiff nor-easterly with a southerly forecast for late this afternoon.
