Ambassador Kåre Aas presented Wisconsin’s Honorary Consul Anne Lindblom with the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit insignia and diploma in a ceremony in Madison, Wis., on Oct. 2.
Wisconsin is home to one of the largest Norwegian-American populations in the United States. For the past 10 years, serving as Norway’s Honorary Consul in Wisconsin, Anne Veslemøy Lindblom has shown great dedication, professionalism, and enthusiasm for Norway and for this flagship Norwegian-American community.
Lindblom has carried out her duties as honorary consul in an outstanding manner. She deserves much of the credit for the strong foothold Norway has in Wisconsin and throughout other parts of the Midwest.
It is well known throughout the Midwest how well Lindblom represents Norway through her active role in Norwegian and Norwegian-American organizations. She has been a long-time supporter of the Vesterheim Museum in Decorah, Iowa, as well as an active member of the Norwegian-American Genealogical Center in Madison.
It is my honor to fulfill the instruction of His Majesty King Harald V to bestow upon Lindblom the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit insignia and diploma that serve as proof of her appointment as Knight, First Class.
The Royal Norwegian Order of Merit was founded by King Olav V in 1985. It is conferred upon Norwegians or foreign nationals in appreciation of their outstanding services in advancing knowledge about and interest in Norway.
In his decision, His Majesty pointed to Lindblom’s outstanding and personal engagement in promoting and serving the Norwegian community in Wisconsin.
