Insufficient transport capacity is the main obstacle for StatoilHydro’s development of new gas discoveries in the Norwegian Sea. Now the company might join efforts with French Total.

StatoilHydro last week announced that it has made a new gas discovery in Norwegian Sea. The Asterix field has about 16 billion cubic meters of gas reserves and is located near several other undeveloped fields in the area.

Altogether, at least 75 billion cubic meters of gas is located in the regional fields, newspaper Dagens Næringsliv reports.

Also French oil company Total has field interests in the Norwegian Sea. According to DN.no, the company now considers development of its Victoria field.
