Kongsberg Oil & Gas Technologies Inc. (KOGT) has been awarded a contract by Petrobras America Inc. (PAI), a subsidiary of Petrobras, to provide a Digital Oil Field Tool (DOFT) for its first deepwater production facility in the Gulf of Mexico.

The DOFT system from KONGSBERG will provide real-time support and monitoring for field operations with ‘look ahead’ predictions. Off-line, it will facilitate production planning and training in subsea operations. The system will be installed both offshore on the Cascade & Chinook production facility and onshore at Port Fourchon, Louisiana, and the PAI Corporate office in Houston, Texas.

The Cascade & Chinook production facility, an FPSO, will be located in the Walker Ridge block of the Gulf of Mexico, 300 km (180 miles) south of New Orleans. It is the farthest and deepest 2,500 m (8,200 ft) development in the Gulf of Mexico, in addition to being the deepest FPSO operation in the world.

The project will be implemented by the KONGSBERG office in Houston. The solution offered is based on the KONGSBERG proprietary software solution D-SPICE, and leverages the company’s extensive experience in providing Production Management Systems in deepwater and offshore production facilities. KONGSBERG has a significant installed base in the Gulf of Mexico, North Sea, Caribbean Sea, Bay of Bengal, Mediterranean Sea and Brazil.
