Jorid Dagfinrud named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
MADISON, Wis. — UND Goalie Jorid Dagfinrud made 29 saves – including 15 in the second period – in shutting out top-ranked Wisconsin, 2-0, last Friday (Oct. 2) in the WCHA season opener for both clubs, earning her the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week in the first awards this season. It was the first collegiate start for the red-shirt freshman.
Dagfinrud made a total of 62 saves in the two-game series split against the defending national champion Badgers and allowed just three goals. She also blanked Wisconsin on all 12 of their power-play chances in the series (six in each game).
Before University of North Dakota (UND), Jorid spent the 2007-08 season with IHK Sparta Sarpsborg and helped the team to a Norwegian national championship.
She played for the Norwegian National team where she competed in the Olympic pre-qualification helping Norway go 3-0 while only allowing one goal.
Jorid is a 2008 graduate of St. Olav in Sarpsborg, Norway. At UND she is majoring in physical education and wellness with a minor in nutrition.
