John Cleese forked out a whopping £3000 on a taxi last week after the Icelandic volcano eruption cancelled his flight from Norway.

Sky News writes that the Monty Python and Fawlty Towers star took the cab from the Norwegian capital Oslo to Brussels after the ash cloud grounded flights throughout Europe.

“We checked every option but there were no boats and no train tickets available,” he said.

“That’s when my fabulous assistant determined the easiest thing would be to take a taxi.

“The bill? A whopping 30,000 krone (£3,300)(ed. $5000).”  Jeepers!

Cleese had been taking part in the popular Scandinavian talk show Skavlan and had hoped to catch a Eurostar train to London.

The taxi reportedly also took two extra drivers to take turns at the wheel for the 930-mile drive.  Nice to see Scandinavian health and safety in action!

The Eyjafjallajoekull volcano in Iceland has been spewing the black stuff for 5 days now restricting air travel causing chaos for thousands of travelers across the globe.

The BBC writes that an estimated 150,000 Britons are thought to be stranded abroad.

Cripes!
