The exhibition LOST IN NATURE, on display through Nov 30th, highlights selected work of the energetic, accomplished Oslo-based practice of Jarmund/Vigsnæs (partners Einar Jarmund, Hakon Vigsnæs, Alessandra Kosberg).

The practice focuses on projects with potential for meaningful architecture, most often closely related to nature and preferably in strong natural settings with harsh climate conditions. The practice explores modern possibilities with sensual and tactile means, seeking the right character for the place and purpose. Clear and understandable strategies aim for results that are both self-evident and sensational. Larger projects results most commonly from competition-winning schemes, smaller projects from the reputation of former clients and structures.

Jarmund / Vigsnæs Architects are: Einar Jarmund, Håkon Vigsnæs, Alessandra Kosberg. Jarmund and Vigsnæs were born in 1962 in Oslo and graduated from the Oslo School of Architecture in 1987 and 1989. Håkon spent one year at the Architectural Association (AA) in London and Einar took a Masters degree from University of Washington in Seattle. Håkon worked with Sverre Fehn, while Einar taught and worked in Seattle.

Both were visiting Professors at Washington University in St. Louis in 2004, at University of Arizona, Tucson in 2005, and are fall, 2009, visiting Professors at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Jarmund / Vigsnæs Architects was established in 1995 after teaching and independent practice for both partners. In 2004 the partnership acquired a third partner, Alessandra Kosberg (b. 1967), who graduated from the Oslo School of Architecture in 1995, and started working with JVA in 1997. JVA currently employs 17 architects.

Opening Lecture with Einar Jarmund, JVA Partner Friday, October 30, 2009, 5.30 p.m. – 7.00 p.m in the Steinberg Hall Auditorium, Washington University in St. Louis.
