ISCP Fall Open Studios in NY with Lars Laumann
International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in New York presents a four-day exhibition of international contemporary art featuring works by 36 artists, artist groups and currators currently in residence at ISCP.
The Norwegian artist Lars Laumann is a current ISCP resident and will be presenting his work at the fall Open Studios November 6-9, 2009.
Twice a year, ISCP Open Studios offer the public, art professionals and other enthusiasts access to cutting-edge contemporary art practices from around the world. The Norwegian artist Lars Laumann is currently a resident at the ISCP in New York and will showcase his work at the Open Studios this fall. His work; the film You Can’t Pretend to Be Somebody Else, You Already Are is a collaboration with artist and photographer Benjamin A. Huseby based both in London and Berlin. Laumann’s and Huseby’s work was first shown at Momentum, the Nordic Biennial in Moss, Norway in August 2009.
Laumann draws his inspiration from the outskirts of popular culture in the form of found texts, images and objects. By sampling and re-editing, he creates collages, books or videos. Mixing different media and techniques to create idiosyncratic worlds, the results are, at times, absurd and unsettling revelations of our collective modern mythologies. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions, including White Columns, Foxy Productions and MoMA in New York, 5th Berlin Biennial in Berlin in Germany, and in the summer of 2009 he presented new works at Trænafestivalen on the Island of Træna in North of Norway. His recent work including screenings, solo exhibitions and group exhibitons in Berlin, London, Oslo and New York, have recieved international acclaim.
ISCP has hosted more than 850 artists and curators from over 50 countries who have significantly contributed to New York’s art community. The program is designed to connect ISCP participants to local institutions, key professionals and a broad range of international visitors. The interaction between artists, curators and critics at ISCP creates opportunities that support every stage of artistic production and development, offering career advancing exchanges such as long-term collaborations and exhibition participation. Open Studios: November 6: 7-9pm: Opening reception. November 7 & 8: 12-6pm. November 9: 2-8pm.
The event is free and open to the public.
