In loving memory: Torrey Bernhardt “Bernie” Karlsen
Torrey Bernhardt Karlsen
July 31, 1933 – Dec. 11, 2020
Beloved husband, father, and “PopPop,” Torrey Bernhardt “Bernie” Karlsen, 87, entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Dec. 11, 2020, in Bethel, Pa.
Bernie made an impact on countless lives. His presence filled every room, and his genuine care and compassion was felt by all. He had a great sense of humor and could put anyone at ease within a few minutes of meeting them. His laughter was contagious, bringing much joy. He led his family with love and shared Jesus every chance he could. We take comfort that he is in heaven with his Savior.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, June; his children and their families: Keith, Judy-Rae, Darlene, Ann Marie, Paul; his grandchildren and their families: Kristina, Jennifer, Darlene, Anna, Torrey; and his great-grandchildren: Christopher, Brandon, Allison, Hudson. He is also survived by June’s children and their families: Greta, Erik, Peder; her grandchildren: Chloe, Gunnar, Haakon, Jonas, Maggie, Syer. He is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Reidun (nee Wilhelmsen), his sister, Ruth, and his great-grandson, Michael.
Bernie attended Mount Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church in Bethel and was involved with the events and activities at the Tuscarora Inn and Conference Center in Mount Bethel. He looked forward to his weekly men’s club bible studies. He was very involved with his family, both with his and June’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved having his family around and would fly or drive anywhere to be with them. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage and enjoyed spending time in Norway, including owning two homes, which he had until four years ago. He loved going to Boca Raton, Fla., every winter for several months to reunite with Norwegian friends.
Bernie will be greatly missed. “Well done thou good and faithful servant.” For memorial information and to share your favorite memories, visit www.caringbridge.org/visit/berniekarlsenmemorial.
