Ida Maria is back in the United States

Ida Maria has been called "Norway's answer to Janis Joplin".

Norwegian rock icon Ida Maria is in the U.S. again, this time on a tour hosted by cult-blogger Perez Hilton.

Ida Maria is a rising international star. According to Mark Deming, at allmusic.com, Ida Maria appeared “seemingly out of nowhere with a batch of superb pop songs full of punk-infused energy and vocals chops that Björk or Polly Jean Harvey would envy.”

For Ida Maria and her band, summer 2009 was spent touring the United States, and she found the New York City in particular to be “intense and big” — an ironic observation since the same can be said for her lyrics and sound. Hints of the 1970s peek through, as her lyrics get right to the point. Her music has the ability to relax you right out of the workday while it simultaneously amps you up for nocturnal playtime. In the end, after taking in a wide range of moods, from piercing frustration to blunt declaration of desire, the experience is almost cathartic and, at times, hypnotic.

Now back in the U.S., the fall outing, which kicked off on Sept. 10 in Atlanta, GA will visit clubs and theaters in 17 cities from coast to coast before wrapping up Oct. 3 in Hollywood, CA.

All three “Perez Hilton Presents” headliners–New Zealand electro-pop outfit Ladyhawke, Ida Maria and New York glam-rockers Semi Precious Weapons–continue supporting 2008 releases: “Ladyhawke,” “Fortress Round My Heart” and “We Love You,” respectively.
