Hockey: Norway is back at Olympics

OSLO, Norway (AP) — Norway’s ice hockey team qualified for the Vancouver Olympics on Saturday (Feb. 7), getting three goals from Patrick Thoresen to twice rally from a goal down for a 5-3 victory over rival Denmark.

Thoresen notched his second straight goal of the game late in the second period to give Norway a 3-2 edge and its first lead. Thoresen completed his hat trick with less than two minutes left in the game at Jordal Amfi Arena, site of the 1952 Olympic hockey tournament.

Norway has not qualified for an Olympic hockey tournament since hosting the 1994 Winter Games at Lillehammer. It will face Canada, the United States and Switzerland in the opening group play in next year’s Olympic tournament.
