Heavy snowfall over Eastern Norway

A heavy snowfall over south eastern Norway on the evening of Christmas Day and during the night is hampering road and air traffic in the region on Second Day Christmas, which is a public holiday in Norway.

The snow clearing crews are out in force, but in the morning people were warned to avoid driving if at all possible.

Air traffic is also being delayed, both at Oslo Airport Gardermoen, and at Moss Airport which was closed altogether for a while, due to the snow.

The snowfall over the South and East is is expected to end by the afternoon, according to the Met Office.

The weather is expected to turn quite a bit colder after the weekend, following temperatures around freezing in the Oslo area the last couple of days.

It has also been mild with snow along the west coast of Norway during Christmas.

In the North the temperatures are well below freezing.
