Hamsun Anniversary celebrated in San Francisco

Knut Hamsun 150th Anniversary celebrated at the Norwegian Seamen’s Church in San Francisco.

This year Knut Hamsun is being celebrated. It is 150 years since the winner of Nobel’s Prize in Literature was born in Lom.

The Norwegian Seamen’s Church and Nordmanns-Forbundet/the Norse Federation are combining efforts to mark the anniversary on April 19 at 1 pm.

Joakim Lie, who is a staff member at the Norwegian Seamen’s Church, will speak on two of Knut Hamsun’s brilliant novels, Sult (Hunger) and Markens Grøde (The Growth of the Soil). Joakim Lie is a teacher on loan for a year from Norway, where he teaches Norwegian at Nesbru High School in Asker, outside Oslo.

Pastor Emeritus, Dagfinn Kvale, will also shed light on Hamsun. His contribution will be: “Knut Hamsun in Amerika”.
