Grete Faremo is Norway’s new Minister of Defence. She received the keys for her new office from her predecessor, Anne-Grete Strøm-Erichsen, who as of today is Minister of Health.

Espen Barth Eide and Ragnhild Mathisen will continue as Deputy Minister and Political Advisor.

Faremo, from Arendal, has made a comeback in government, having served as Justice Minister under Gro Harlem Brundtland.

Faremo left government in 1996 and until last year was head of legal and corporate affairs for Microsoft Norway, responsible for Microsoft’s internal legal offices and relations with national authorities in 14 western European countries.

Grete Faremo is currently vice-chairman of industrial firm Hydro.
