Government Stockman talks
We always considered that Norwegian companies control unique experiences in offshore field development, Russian Minister of Natural Resoucers Yury Trutnev said after the meeting. “We value the cooperaton which has developed between Russia and Norwegian in the field of sub-soil resources,” he added.
The Norwegian Minister of Oil and Energy Terje Riis-Johansen also said that the two countries’ governments from now on will step up contacts and joint competence skills. “It is the companies which are responsible for the operative Shtokman development. However, the authorities will from now on be in more regular contacts in order to assess whether the competence developed can be applied to handle the technological challenges in the North,” Riis-Johansen added. This will be a more concrete cooperation than before, the Norwegian minister continued, Dn.no reports with reference to E24.no.
The Stockman field (aka Shtokman) is one of the world’s largest natural gas fields, lies in the central part of Russian sector of the Barents Sea, 600 kilometres (370 mi) north of Kola Peninsula. Its reserves are estimated at 3.8 trillion cubic meter of natural gas and more than 37 million tons of gas condensate. The Shtokman field was discovered in 1988, but the field so far was not developed owing to extreme Arctic conditions and the depth of the sea. (Source: Wikipedia)
