Norway’s Goldfish Boats has received an order from the Norwegian Ministry of Defence for boats worth NOK 87m.

The deal secures part of Goldfish’s production until next year, when the last boats will be delivered.

The specifications of the boats is restricted due to military security rules but, apart from the 36ft (11m) boats, Goldfish will also deliver one 29 RIB Tender for the royal Norwegian ship Norge.  “Even if the boat is specially built for the Ministry of Defence, the international market for such boats is huge,” Henrik Sollie at Goldfish Boats told Båtmagasinet.

“We regard this order as a door opener for further deliveries and already have some dialogues with foreign troops. This will be an important business area for us in the future and we’d like to pay as much attention to this segment as to the pleasure boats.”  Goldfish boats are produced in Son, south of Oslo close to the Oslo fjord. They are sold on several markets with dealers in Norway, Sweden, Spain, the UK, France, Monaco and Greece. The boats are well known for high capacity and quality as speedboats. The range includes five models from 22ft-26ft (7m-8m).

Although several other Norwegian boat producers are facing tough times because of the economical depression, Goldfish is said to be running at good speed. “As a producer only building boats on customer orders, we’ve been saved from the liquidity crisis, but we can also feel that decisions are harder to get these days.”
