Release of 2008 Gård Altruism Riesling

Gård Vintners, a family-owned winery from the Columbia Valley, will host a charitable wine tasting to celebrate its 3rd anniversary and the release of its 2008 Gård Altruism Riesling, from which a portion of proceeds will be donated to the MS Society’s Greater Washington Chapter.

Join Gård Vintners on August 15 from noon-7pm at their tasting room in Woodinville, located at 19495 144th Ave. NE, Suite B240, Woodinville, WA 98072.

A $5 tasting fee will be donated to charity, and will give wine tasters access to try the new 2008 Gård Altruism Riesling, as well as Gård Dry Riesling and Don Isidro wines, plus three wines from Smasne Cellars, with which Gård shares its tasting room. In addition, light hors d’oeuvres will be provided, as well as live music by singer/songwriter McKenzie Paige from 3-7 pm. The event is free to wine club members.

The 2008 Altruism Riesling is estate-grown from Lawrence Vineyards , and showcases the pure expression of sweet fruit flavors, combining green apples, lemon zest, sweet tarts, melon and honey components around a core of solid acidity. At 1.6% residual sugars, it is refreshing, yet balanced and focused around a crisp, clean and concentrated finish. Enjoy as a summer sipper or with spicy cuisine. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the MS Society’s Greater Washington Chapter.

Attendees will also receive special anniversary discounts on select cases and other special offers. In addition to tasting a large variety of premium and award-winning wines, attendees will have the opportunity to meet the winemaker, Robert O. Smasne, and owner of Gård Vintners and Lawrence Vineyards, Josh Lawrence.

Gård’s tasting room is located in Woodinville’s popular warehouse district, which features 30 other wineries within a one-mile radius. Regular hours for the tasting room: Fridays from 2-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. In addition, the tasting room is also open by appointment and for private parties.

ABOUT GÅRD VINTNERS

Gård, which means “farm,” is a tribute to our family’s Scandinavian heritage, as we have been farming the fertile soils of the Royal Slope for more than 45 years. Gård Vintners is a family-owned winery from Royal City, Wash. in the Columbia Valley that seeks to capture the quality of its estate vineyard, Lawrence Vineyards, in the glass. We have been crafting fine wine since 2006.

ABOUT ROBERT O. SMASNE, WINEMAKER

Robert O. Smasne has spent the past 13 vintages crafting wines that have garnered him a reputation as a leading winemaker in Washington state. Smasne is currently the proprietor, winemaker and consultant for his ROS Wine Company and passionately handcrafts wine for his labels Smasne Cellars, Alma Terra and Farm Boy wines. He is also winemaker and/or consulting winemaker for over a dozen other northwest wineries, including Gård Vintners. ABOUT MCKENZIE PAIGE, SINGER/SONGWRITER

Singer/songwriter McKenzie Paige was discovered by Northwest blues diva, Linda Hornbuckle, at the age of six during a Wine and Blues Festival. Singing Stevie Ray Vaughn numbers with a voice twice her size, she was instantly dubbed “the little girl with the great big voice”. She performed for a crowd of fifty-thousand plus at the Portland Red, White and Blues Festival by age eight and had written and recorded her first song by eleven. Now, at age eighteen, McKenzie has grown into that ‘great big voice’ and performs at festivals and resorts from California to Washington. She has jammed with Grammy winning artists in Southern California, performed songs written by the Best Songwriters in Portland and she, herself, has won many singing competitions and a Seattle recording studio’s demo contest. McKenzie has sung with Women in Blues, Linda Hornbuckle, members of Body and Soul and has been on the same bill with John Lee Hooker, Shamika Copeland and Double Trouble. Mentoring under Mark Bosnian of Mark Bosnian Vocal Studios, she has developed texture in her powerhouse vocals and added guitar, keyboards and ukulele to her musical arsenal. McKenzie Paige is a girl you’re going to want to watch grow up!
